Hipotekarna bank has organized today an educational panel discussion "Live locally, learn globally" in Hilton Hotel, in cooperation with Honorary Consul of Montenegro in Milan.Rector of Bocconi University Milan, professor Gianmario Verona and Milica Pejanović Đurišić, full professor at the University of Montenegro, participated in this panel which was moderated by Radoje Cerović, a psychologist and business consultant. The event was opened by CEO of Hipotekarna bank, Mr. Esad Zaimović. Mrs. Dolly Predović, Honorary Consul of Montenegro in Milan, and a former corporate finance professor at Bocconi University addressed the audience, among whom were present and former students and post graduates from Montenegrin Universities and Bocconi University, as well as presidents and directors of numerous institutions and companies from Montenegro.
Mrs. Predović who dedicated major part of her career to internationalization of education stressed that "strengthening the bridges of cooperation and building a knowledge society is the most beautiful mission of the Honorary Consul of Montenegro in Milan". "Today's market is changing thanks to young people who are using the opportunities of acquiring and applying international knowledge.
This is significant, both for those young people and for the overall development of society, and therefore we considered it worthwhile to organize this panel, together with Hipotekarna bank, „Mrs. Predović said. She explained that the idea for this project came as an effect of internationalization in higher education, characterized by high students’ mobility. "The skills that students gain through traveling, are desired by employers. Universities must create globally employable students, "Predović said, putting emphasis on„Internationalization at home ", believing that students can acquire international skills at home, equivalent to skills gained by their peers who go for exchanges and travel."Rector of Bocconi University, prof. Gianmario Verona, among other things, spoke about something that in classical, narrow sense is not knowledge."It's about skills, character traits, emotional predispositions. Communication, teamwork, perseverance are just as important as knowledge, "Verona said.Afterwards, the Rector of Bocconi emphasized to the attendees the importance of the ability of interpreting data:"Because of the significance of this area, Bocconi introduced in its official syllabus the learning of programming languages that are used to manage large amounts of data (the so-called Big Data).
As much as English was once a prerequisite for internationalization of knowledge, today it is understood that so many programming languages, such as, for example, Python, open the doors of many future professions. "Verona also insisted on the fact that one of the most important qualities of his University is in a huge amount of practical work and experience students gain during their studies, thanks to the close cooperation that Bocconi has with business entities from Italy and EU.Prof. Milica Pejanović Đurišić has explained in her exposition that the very nature of the field she is working (telecommunications) in is free circulation of knowledge. "Initially this area had the goal of providing communication to everyone, in every place and in many manners. Today, when this is a reality, the question arises what is next? Nowadays, when information technology is an omnipresent tool and in some way intertwines with all areas, the future of IT is in the future of the development of all these areas individually, i.e. overall scientific and technological development and progress ", said Pejanović Djurišić.Apart from the fact that she is proud of the competitiveness of our students at the global market, she points out that there are students and professionals who are coming back to Montenegro and bring knowledge from prestigious academic and business environments willing to apply it in Montenegro."The constant struggle for us here must be to create the best conditions for students and professors to return to Montenegro, not only because of the love for their country, but also because of the competitive conditions for work, research and promotion,"Mrs. Pejanović Djurišić has pointed out.
The panel and cocktail organized afterwards was an opportunity to discuss the possibilities of cooperation among students and universities on a global level, the key role of education for the prosperous future, the opportunities that Universities offer in acquiring knowledge and skills necessary for success, how to gain international experience, the ability to assess the impact of global phenomena on professional and personal life as the necessary skills of graduates in contemporary society. It was also concluded that Universities and the local community can do much within their geographical environment, on the development of intercultural learning and awareness of global influences.
